The Essential Guide to How to Put Your Wetsuit On

A wetsuit is absolutely essential for your visit to Canolfan Tryweryn, the National White Water Centre, whether you're bringing your own or hiring one of ours.
The Tryweryn is a dam-released river, meaning the water is drawn from deep within the Llyn Celyn reservoir, making it consistently cool even on warm days. A full-length wetsuit (long sleeves and legs) keeps you warm enough to enjoy your time on the water.
A thicker wetsuit also offers a vital layer of impact protection against bumps ensuring
your white-water adventure is fun and safe.
Getting into your wetsuit smoothly is key to starting your adventure happy.
Here's a quick guide to help you out:
Stage 1: Prep and Position Lay your wetsuit out flat, making sure the zip is at the back. It’s much easier to put on if it’s the right way out, so make sure the sizing info is on the inside and the logo is on the outside.
Stage 2: Feet First This is where the magic happens! Take a plastic bag and place it over one foot like a sock. Your foot will then slide through the wetsuit leg with surprising ease. Once your foot is through, pull the bag out. Repeat for the other foot. Although this trick is primarily aimed at children, it works for everyone!
Stage 3: Legs Up Work the wetsuit up your legs, pulling the material little by little rather than trying to yank it all up at once. Make sure there’s no excess material bunching around your ankles or knees. The knee pads need to be over your knee caps and the crotch section needs to be in position before you attempt to move onto the torso.
Stage 4: Torso and Arms Once the wetsuit is over your hips, pull it up over your torso. Now for the arms: wiggle your shoulders to get the suit sitting comfortably. Elbow pads will indicate that the arms are sufficiently inside the suit.
Stage 5: Zip It Up Reach behind you and grab the zip pull cord. Pull it all the way up, remembering to hold long hair out of the way. Ask someone to check the velcro tab is fastened, securing the zip in place. Give a few stretches and wriggles to ensure everything is settled and you're ready!
Now you feel like a real action hero,
let's get on the water!
